Hey guys i having some problems with my truck here....when you leave a traffic light or a dead stop my truck will accel like crazy till it hits 2200-2300 rpm then all it does is blow black smoke it won't shift until i let of the accelerator... It sort of did this before i installed my dp as you can imagin it is now worse....is it posible that my fuel position on the pedal is messed up, Just looking 4 some sugestion
If you have black smoke, it's defanitely not a lack of fuel. Something to do with when it's injected and how much. Im thinking its not something mechanical, more like electronic.
I think it's a boost leak that is popping open under pressure. The MAP is reading boost and the ECU commands fuel, then the boost leaks and you get a bunch of black smoke because of not enough air.
Or it's simply a clogged air filter.
Or a wastegate falling open.
when i'm checking the wastegate what should i look for???
That's really the last thing to suspect here.
The way to check it, however, is to tee a line with the pressure guage the canister and apply gentle shop air pressure to the tee. The WG lever on the top of the exhaust housing should not begin to move until the air pressure on the guage reads 5 psi.
I set mine to 12 so it wouldn't open before that.

Thanks Kris. I was on hold with the IH dealer odering fuel filters for some 6.0's when I typed my earlier post. I was thinking air, but I guess I had fuel on the brain.
I had the tranny rebuilt in the fall....I will ask the tech that built it what he thinks ....I will start with the easy things ppl have pointed out to me, thx
