I know diesel foams when filling the tank so I try and keep filling it for another minute once the handle clicks. The last 2 times I have filled up, the instrument panel said I had 10-15 miles until empty yet I could only put 25 gallons into my 30.5 gallon tank.
Has anyone run past when the computer gauge says 0 miles and gone another 30-50 miles? I hate to keep filling up only 25 gallons at a time knowing I have a 30 tank but I'm concerned I'd be running the risk that the computer is correct and I'm just not filling the tank full each time.
How low do you guys run your tank or how many gallons are you putting in when the computer is reading under 50 miles to go? I was used to running my F-150 down to 2-3 gallons to go every time so it feels wierd thinking there is another 5 gallons left (I think).
I have a job 1 and I'm getting about 11mpg city and 18hwy but I only have 1800 miles.
I'm not sure how far past 0 miles until empty you can go but am curious myself. I can however tell you that when filling up (30.5 capacity tank) I can add an extra 3 gallons if finessed after the pump clicks off the first time.
I have a Transflow Tank installed. It has a Trax II computer Module that shows the gallons in each tank. When my 50 mile til empty comes on there is still 5 gallons left. When it reachs 0 mile there is 2 gallons left. Hope this helps.
Some '08 SD's are experiencing problems with DTE calculations. The DTE will say you are about out of fuel yet there is still fuel in the tank. Ford knows about the problem and engineering is working on it, but there is no fix at this time.
The only suggestion at this time is to disconnect the battery to kill the memory which will re-initialize the DTE.
My 08 said 0 miles to empty and no sooner started to buck. Lucky I was in my driveway so I shut it off and put in a 6 gal. container to get to the station. I would say that mine is accurate. My 06 could go 20 miles past with no problem, thats why I went past with the 08. Never again!
Most will probably agree to fuel more often. Running to the bottom of the tank is too risky. Even if you get some bad fuel, refilling at 200 miles or 1/2 tank could save you from major problems. Maybe someone else will remember but the CD says to do what I say above.
I've gone past 0 to empty a couple times. Think once I got maybe to -8 and it started bucking and surging. Think this is another built in warning. Drove it 3 or 4 more miles to the pumps with the bucking and surging going on. Only could get about 35 gallons in it then even. Mine's supposed to be the 39 gallon tank.
I had the dealer do a V-bom on my truck, which is a detailed report with serial#'s of parts on my specific truck, gas tank, or whatever.I also would only be able to put in 32-33 gal. each fill up even though my truck sticker said I had the 38ga. tank. The dealer showed me the report results and I have a 40gal. tank with an 8gal. reserve. This would explain going past the 0 mi.to empty. I guess they never want these trucks running out of fuel. I can squeeze 35gal in the tank if I stand there for twenty minutes waiting for the foam to settle. It is warning "device" according to the owners manual
The owners manual, under the fueling section I believe, has a little section that says something like "the truck will begin to run bad to alert the driver to re-fuel".
