OK so i bought the truck 2 weeks ago (Stock, supposely) found out it had an intake. I installed my Rough country 6 inch lift, rims and tires last week and all is GREAT. took it out to the mud yesterday for the first time and got stuck... only to find out that my hubs werent lockig in using the switch on the dash.. so i jump out in the mud.. take off my centercaps and find out that i have superwinch hubs and they werent locked.. so i lock them (EXTREMELY easy) and next thing you know she pulls out of the mud like it wasnt there. All in all ther eis no popping grinding etc.. the hubs are very easy to lock in. my questions are:
Q. Are the superwinch hubs still supposed to work with the ford vacuum lines, or do i have to manually get out and lock them?
Q. Is there any benefit from having the superwinch hubs rather than stock?
It is my understanding that no aftermarket hubs will work with the Ford ESOF. All aftermarkets will be manual, causing you to have to manually lock them. It much more reliable in the long term than the Ford hubs, just a hassle to some to have to exit the vehicle to get 4WD.
I know what you mean.. i seriously thought my truck was stuck and there was NO way my big *** truck should have been stuck in the little amount of mud with my tires LOL.. ill just have to remember to lock them in before i go play
Yeah, mine work (with the ESOF) periodically, to say that they lock with the ESOF switch, but to unlock them, I must get out and manually unlock them sometimes. I will probably switch to Warns eventually.
I have Warn hubs on mine and if I think I am going to need 4X4 I just leave the hubs locked. (no harm in doing so)When I need 4X4 I just use switch on the dash. My old FORD hubs would randomly work as well. Vacuum issue....

Nothing wrong with it, but if you turn tightly with the hubs locked in 2WD, they click.
I've never noticed it with mine and I run with the hubs locked most of the winter. If the transfer case is also engaged and you are on dry ground that is not good and it can make some interesting noise.
It will be in 2 wheel drive until the switch on the dash is activated to provide power to the front axle. The front axle will spin because the hubs are locked but the transfer case will not be providing any power the front.....
I personally have not had any problems. I have run it down the freeway and on dirt and muddy areas when hunting and I have had no side effects of running with the hubs engaged an d the dash switch off. That being said, if I know I am not going to need it I do usually unlock them.I supposed it could reduce the gas mileage a little because of the extra friction but as you should know by now these trucks aren't designed for gas mileage. Good Luck and have a great memorial weekend. I am just heading out for a weekend of camping and have the TT loaded and ready to go!
