Center link, drag link question

I'm Doing a disc brake swap from a 76 to a 66 f100, using the original 66 center link and drag link, i'm having problems with the bolts being long enough to go through the spindles. The castle nuts won't tighten down enough so I can get the cotter pin inserted. Should I be using the center link and drag link from the 76? And can I buy these links new? thanks in advance. Barry

The trick is to change out the tire rod ends to later units. Or as some do grind down the mounts till the nut fits for the cotter.

The early spindle are thinner in the mount area.

Is It safe to grind the spindles, won't the heat from grinding make the metal weak?

Grinding will not weaken it.. there is not enough heat produced by a hand grinder.

Thanks Garbz, I guess grinding is alot less expensive than buying new parts...seeing how I butchered the links on the 76 getting the spindles off. I'll know better next time. Thanks again, Barry
