I searched but didn't find this specific problem. My signals and brake lights each work properly by themselves but the brake lights won't work when a signal is on. This happens on both sides. Could it be anything other than the TS switch?
Check the wiring at each of the rear taillight assemblies. If you lose a ground back there, it will cause problems like you are seeing. I have had to fix the ground issue at a rear taillight on 3 of my trucks.
Man, these turn signal switches cause some issues don't they. Well, once you've gone through it you'll realize it's a cheap fix but, it takes some of your time. If a electo-mechanic tech is involved it can be a bit costly. It's best to learn how to fix these issues yourself. You just have to think it through and be patient.
I did check the grounds and all seems ok. The indicators don't come on when applying the brakes. When I have the brakes on then turn on a signal the other side goes out. I put a test light to the contacts on the TS cam and had power to all 4 with just the brake lights then constant power to the 2 inners while the 2 outers flashed with brake lights and a signal on. Does this sound right? I have a '78 fixed column in the truck.
I found the problem. Go figure it was the replacement cam I had installed a few months ago with "Made in Taiwan" stamped on it. We all know the moral of the story.
A little brainstorming and tweaking (of the tabs on the cam) seem to have it working.
