I bought a 68 F100 with a 360 and C6 last year. She has sat in the yard since we towed her home. I went to fire it up the other day. Dropped a fresh battery in it checked the oil pulled the coil wire and turned it over to get some oil flowing. Fresh fuel and she fired right up with some smoke. Looked good until the thermostat opened started smoking bad. Pulled the plugs and all were wet with oil. I figured the valve seals were dried and shrunk. Pulled the valve covers and had water on the rockers and a nice creamy milkshake.
I was planning on a .030 over bore and 390 crank and rods but am looking at the Survival 3.984 kit. A friend got a nice shiny modern performer intake for his 67 427 so he gave me his old PI intake. I told him he needed nice shiny modern performer heads but he wouldn't bite.
My heads are C8AE-H. Can I work these heads to work well with the Survival 417 kit?. If so what would you guys recommend without snatching the kids piggy banks ?. C and C Motor Sports is just down the road and I think they can get er done.
I have a lot of luck with using a CJ specked cam and the adjustable rocker arms. The rocker arms give you a little more lift that the non adjustable ones, but they don't put out too much lift to start wearing out your valve guides. This gives the best of both worlds as far as bottom end torque and top end power is concerned. I would also upsize the valves to CJ size intakes. Go as big as you can with the exhausts. Bigger valves on a stroker motor will help in volumetric efficiencty on the intake size and better scavenging on the exhaust side. I'm not sure what kind of compression you are looking for, so I cannot comment on the type of casting that you are using. Are the pistons going to be flat tops with valve reliefs or are they dished with valve reliefs? If dished, what is the dish volume?
