How do I lower the PH level in my cooling system? I am at 11.0 and need to be somewhere around 8.0
Anyone familiar with this area?
The nitrate level is ideal @ 1200 The freeze point is -34* F

You used tap water? Should have used distilled or demineralized.
8.0 is higher acidity than 11.0.
Ph test is more for long life coolant.(factory gold)
The nappa PH strips are not the correct SCA test for green (low/no silicate) coolant
I did use distilled water, fresh low silicate anti-freeze 50/50, changed all hoses, installed a 203* stat and prayed to the coolant Gods on 10-01-07.
I do have some Napa strips and I checked the coolant today (I just changed water pump and saved the coolant for return) and the PH is 11.0 and the strips bottle says "Immediate attention necessary"
Its not a fish tank!!!
11.0 is less acidity.
Have heard you can raise the level with distilled vinegar.
Try the google thing.
I would not put it in my cooling system.
Uh oh... no tap water??? ..... After I did backflush, I just left the water that was in the block, drained rad, and filled with coolant (to make 50/50 mix) and added SCA's... woops!
Bill, that fish tank comment was funny, I'm still chuckling
In my pursuit for information I came across several articals addressing high PH in diesel cooling systems and one of the things that it does is attack solder, aluminum etc, etc. I need to get different test strips to test my SCA which I will do. None of these dang articals would tell me how to change it so I did what I should have done in the beginning is turn to FTE.
If in fact that high PH level does eat away at solder then it needs to be addressed and corrected.
I know one thing for a fact that I got into a hot tub several years back and the PH was so far out of wack I thought that I was going to become a saprano, and they were not soldered on. He he he
Found this hydrochloric acid (pool supply)
I never had to deal with high ph
Seems 7.5 to 11.5 is accepted levels from most motor manufactures.
From what i found the high ph came from the additive package in the brand of coolant.
I would leave it alone the #s will fall with use.
Pool Boy, Hmmmmm sounds like you're starting a new career.
I got a suggestion for another forum to pour a cup of vinagar into the system and that would bring it down.
Question: Would I then have a "Pickled Diesel?" or maybe a: "Deviled Diesel"
Rog
I just ground the rad and heater core.
Most of the electrolysis comes from the voltage they will produce due to they are insulated from the truck. They become a little battery!
