Hello everyone can somebody tell me what part this is ?
I think i shorted this part out the neg batt post touched this part when the engine was running . I took out the Batt support to sand and paint it . When i lifted the hood the neg batt post was touching this part . Now engine just cranks no glow clicks and no amp light when turning the key HELP.
If you buy a new v reg. make sure you go to ford and get one. I learned this the hard way. The two from advanced lasted me about a week. I have had the one from ford almost a year and no problems, and it only cost a few bucks more.
You me be chasing the wrong problem. That voltage regulator is also grounded to the body, so touching the case of it with a battery ground cable shouldnt make a difference. See if it hit the solenoid (the round thing next to the reg)make sure you didnt blow a fuse.
I check fuse number 11 under the hood it was good switched anyway still no go. The solenoid and reg all all screwed to the fender do you this i need to change solenoid first ? is it called glow plug regator or something ? I see your from MD. Also
Not real familiar with those particular trucks. On the older diesels there used to be a glow plug controller on the top rear of the motor near the firewall. Yep, I'm in Gaithersburg,Md.
The regulator has nothing to do with the glow plugs.
But the power feed for the glow plugs should be two of the wires on the rear of the starter relay, on the same stud with the large red wire form the positive battery terminal.
I know this is probably a no no but I really think it could help everyone with any brand of truck. It is about voltage regulators so it is kinda' on-topic. If I'm out of line jerk this post. Plus it shows I'm not just a blind MOPAR guy.
OK, my Dad bought my '91 1/2 (intercooled) Dodge Cummins TD brand new. It kept blowing volt. reg. now the truck was under warranty so he figured they ought to have to fix it. They had it at the dealership a buncha' times, never got it right. They FLEW A FACTORY ENGINEER to the dealership, he couldn't fix it, basically said "sorry we dunno what to do." My Dad figured ah crap I do this stuff for a living I guess I'll have to be my own warranty station on this one.
He worked on it for a while and then the light bulb came on ... the friggin' thing's mounted right behind the head about two inches away on the firewall... LOTTSA HEAT! It hasn't blown one since in about 120K. And I think he's since relocated the V.R. in every '89-'93 Cummins around here.
Moral of the story V.R.s don't like to be BAKED.
Its Fixed thanks everyone i pulled all the fuses the next morning and they were all good. I switched batts the passenger side sounded weak, remounted the VR and she started right up.
