depends on the air temp how the transmission shifts, it will always skip one gear either 4th or 5th I think, some one more knowlegable will chime in here soon probably other wise I could probably go pull out my manuals and look it up.
I don't know about skipping gears, mine just plain slips between 3rd and 4th at exactly 30mph under light acceleration. Never when towing, only when unloaded. I gave up on it when the dealer couldn't find the problem. That was 40,000 miles ago.
It doesn't happen very often and hasn't gotten any worse.
I was not aware of the gear skip as normal, it dose pretty much feel as a slip when shifting between third and fouth. Dose anyone know were I can find info on this?
I looked it up in my manuals, below 5deg F it shifts 1-2-3-4-6
above 5 deg f 1-2-3-5-6.
as far as slipping I dont know, ther was a topic on here about using progrmers and how hard it is to program the tranny due to its shifting pattern and always having a shift flare.
Hey painter, mine is doing exactly the same thing. It doesnt do it all the time, and temperature doesn't seem to matter. Its just between 3-4 shift. It started doing it right before I left for Iraq (which I am currently at) and its kinda stressing me out. Mines an 05 with 20,000 miles. I haven't changed the tranny fluid yet but thats what I'm going to try as soon as I get outta here. It makes me feel better though that yours is still going strong w/ 40,000 miles like that.

I got a chill as I read that. I'm sitting in my office sipping coffee and you're in Iraq covering you're @ss, I hope. Thanks for your service.
My tranny never does it under any load at all. Don't sweat it. I am curious about the skipping gear thing. I'll have to watch my rpm's.
My '06 has 15,000 miles now and has did it since it was new also. I've had it at Ford a couple of times. The tech has reflashed the trans with all the current files but it still flares.

does it do it stock? If it does, replace the external filter (ft145), it may help get some of the crud out of the solenoids.
