My truck use to rev high when it was warming up, then about the time i got the 4" exhaust and the 6637, it stopped. would these mods affect the ebpv and the way it works or is it a coincidence and it has actually stopped working?
How cold is it there? I believe it has to do with that little sensor that came out the side of your factory intake box. Where did you place the sensor? Mine still does the high idle with the 6637.

Curious where you put yours- mine is under the air filter zip-tied to where the airbox used to sit.
currently it is low 30's in the morning. this has been happening for about 4 weeks now and temps were in the low 20's when it started not reving.... also it happens regardless if i have had the truck plugged in or not.
hum.... i forgot all about that little sensor... so i guess it is just hanging there??? does it need to be somewhere specific?
Does the sensor have to be plugged into something to get a reading? just wondering if i left something attached to the old air filter box or something... i moved the wire close to the fender and even though it is 53 deg. now, i thought i would try it.... still nothing.
however there are a couple of very strange noises. i hear a very pronounced slap sound and it sounds very metal like. ( i thought some metal parts were going to come flying out!) this is followed up by a slurp sound about 8 seconds later. then again with the loud metal slap sound 20 seconds after the first one, followed up by the slurp sound again. it did this for about 3 minutes then stopped. i could not pinpoint the sounds but they sounded like they were coming from the top left of the engine. ????
The sensor just plugs into air so as long as there's something on the end of the wires then you should be good. 53 is too warm for the high idle.
I don't know what to say about the noise. I turned my speakers up and read it again and I still have nothing. When you say left of the engine do you mean drivers or passenger side? Did the truck run any different when it was making noises? Could you change the noises by giving it a little throttle to change the RPM's? Did you look under the truck to make sure nothings dripping now?
i will see what happens tomorrow morning when it is cold again....
passanger side of the motor. truck didnt run any different and it stopped on its own before i gave it throttle. nothing dripping.
moving the sensor didnt help. still no high rev. temps were high 30's this morning. one thing i noticed was after starting the truck i was taking the garbage cans to the road, i heard the exhaust change sounds. it started to sound like a jet engine, but the truck still stayed at about 750-800rpm's. why the sound change?
Any other ideas as to why it no longer revs high when it is cold?

I think the sound change is that the blow off valve was open and releasing the boost pressure into the exhaust instead of the motor. Mine will do this when it is cold too.
I know that sounds very dumb, but this actually happened to me. My cruise control was not working, and I checked EVERYTHING i thought....Then after about a month, I gave up on the cruise control(figuring one day I would figure it out), but was doing something else by the filter and noticed a sensor with no wire hooked up. Looked around, saw that the wire was hanging hooked it up, my high rev and cruise control came back! Best day eva!
When you installed the filter, you might have knocked that sensor off the end of the brake master cylinder, thats what I did.
Good luck
John does bring up an excellent point. Any sensor that would typically shut off the high idle could also be a problem. Emergency brake (when I release mine the high idle goes off), brake pedal, clutch (if applicable) throttle, etc.
The sensor we were talking about is just a thermistor that provides data to the PCM. It does not control high idle by itself. Have you inspected it to make sure the wire does not look broken?
my cruise works, i used it yesterday. i do wonder if there is something else that i may have unhooked by accident....
i have been wondering about the thermostat end of the plug.... it was still hooked to the inside of the old air box. tonight i took it off and plugged it back onto the end of the wire that was just dangling. i will see tomorrow morning..... my hunch is that it needs it plugged into it. doesnt make sense to me that it would still work w/out it???

Yep. Sorry if I wasn't clear before. The sensor has to be on the end of the wires for it to work. The sensor just hangs in the air to read air temps, but if you took it off the wires then the PCM defaults to a temp reading of 59 deg. so no EBP operation or high idle.
