i own a 05 f150 v6 i was wanting to put a liftkit and a programmer on it i was wondering if anyone knows if im going to lose a lot of power, gas mileage( especially with rising gas prices ), and capabilites of using it as a truck is intended for, also will it put to much stress on any of the mecanical parts, ive seen this done on v8s with no problems other than the new crossmember being a pain when changing oil any thoughts ps im new to this place so if this is to long of a ??? let me know ill shorten up the next one
The 4.2 F150 is pretty much the same truck as the 4.6 and 5.4 aside from the engine. So any any additional stress you subject it to would be no different from what a V8 would be subjected to, with the possible exception of the transmission if you have the 5 speed manual.
It was offered with 4.6 but never the 5.4.
Pretty much anything you do to increase wind resistance, rolling resistance, weight, etc. will drop your gas mileage. But that's true with any truck.
The programmer would probably be nice, but I've never played with one.
Bottom line, I guess it all boils down you deciding what you want to spend your money on. If a lift kit and what-not is what you want, then go for it.
There's always a trade off, so weigh the options and decide what you want to spendyour money on.
Either way, enjoy it and feel free to ask moe questions
