I've got this 4 barrel FE intake manifold sitting in the garage and I have no idea what it is.
C7AE-9425-E is the part number cast on it.
I know the C7AE-9425 ids it as a 67 4v manifold, but I'm not sure about the E, and what it says about it. Any help would be appreciated.
Also, looks like there is a 7-13 on it (I believe that's the casting date, but I'm not sure), a larger S shaped letter cast on it, and "DIF" cast on it.
Pretty much std issue FE iron 67-68. This has the smaller intake ports for the mid 66 and later FE heads. Date code should have a letter between those numbers 7-13. 7 is the year 67, letter A-M Jan-Dec skipping the letter "I" is the month. A= Jan, B= Feb and so on. The "I" was easily confused for the number 1 so it was dropped and not used. 13th day of the month it was cast. DIF is for Dearborn Iron Foundry. There are both "S" and "T" intakes. S intakes were the car version and T the truck. But both have been found in opposite applications. Both are more or less the same casting. The "E" at the end is the level of revisions. So 5th revsion or change of some sort along the way. It's also nice and heavy.
I searched the net54 site: Someone said the C7 intake used the more common small thermostat, while my C6 intake should use the large thermostat. Is that fact or crap? Now I'm wondering because I don't remember having any problems buying a thermostat for mine.

I had that happen last summer. Picked one up from NAPA and the new one was too small, had to take the old one in to match it up.

You know Hyp there appears to be both sizes thru 66-67. With the 67 year production starting mid 66 I can understand how there could be both. I believe by 68 they were all small. That said Bob Hasty made and sold a neat little plate where you can use a small stat in a large stat intake. And when I shop for the larger FE thermostats I ask for a Mopar 340 stat. As most stores only list the smaller size for the FE's. The 340 thermostat is the same size as the larger FE version.
I'm pretty sure that intake is for a 390 GT engine.
For date cast look for 2 round headed marks with 3 or 4 digits inside them
ie: *7L22*
It's the same intake for the GT or std FE in the given timeframe. Both the S (in Kens case) and T intakes are identical except for some later models EGR equipment.
But with a engineering number of C7 and the suffix of E there is some difference from the 66 version.
What was actually changed ?
The 66 intake was slightly taller than the 67 and later that I've noticed. But intake port dimensions are the same from mid 66 on. There are other subtle changes. Some had reinforcments added here and there. Which would account for the changes. Also some 66 intakes were machined for the "fingered" type drip rails which changed in 67 to the later fingerless style. Thermostat size (large to small dia) was also changed from 66 on. Although some later intakes did retain the larger thermostat design. As mentioned 73 on had the EGR garb. So there were some changes which is why the casting number changed. But between the std 390 and GT 390 during the same model year the same intake was used on both. There were also big and small "S and T's" cast in the intakes of which I haven't keep track of the exact changes.
I am looking at the same intake mani here... C7AE-9425-E Mine is date code June 13, 67 and is from a 67 Mercury Marauder FE 410 CID. The 410 is a 428 crank in a 390 block only used iin Mercs 66 and 67. I have this one now bolted to a '65 352CID FE and with the ford 4V the results are excellent. This intake also has the large "S" on a runner .. the same intake was used on 427 FE's in the latter sixties as well.

hope this helps.
All the 427s I've ever seen or heard of had aluminum intake manifolds, never an iron one.
