Ignition cylinder lock relpacement
I bought a 95 F-250 auto w/7.3 liter diesel on the weekend. Got it for a song. It has 2 problems however. I need to sort out problem #1 before I can move on to problem #2.
First, it has no key. The previous owner died in an auto accident and his widow couldn't find the key. She knows that he had one on his keychain that he had when he was in his accident, but that vehicle was a writeoff and they took the whole thing to the wreckers. Keys and all. As for a spare, she has no idea. Someone else had tried getting it going and made a mess of the key slot so I think cylinder replacment is in order. Does anyone have a walkthrough of the procedure for changing one out? Pictures would go miles and miles towards helping me out.
Problem # 2 - At last report, the truck wouldnl't go in reverse. But I need to get it home before I can look at that.
As far as not going into reverse, there is an actuator rod that runs from the cylinder to the ignition switch on top of the steering column underneath the dash. I've had that actuator rod break before and get wedged where i couldn't shift at all. In your case it may be that or something else like a linkage problem.
I don't know how similar the m87 and 95 are but i hope this helps!
