First off I've done a search, but haven't found the answer I'm looking for.
I'm in the process of hooking a 76 460 to a NP-435 out of a 79. I know the bell housing clutch I need (400M for both), and I also know I need a 360/390 flywheel.
Now for my question. Whats the best way way to ID the 360/390 flywheel. Whats the PN# ? I have a lead on a flywheel from a fellow FTE'r, but they aren't 100% certain and want to make sure (have several on a shelf).
I thought that after 1972 the 460 was externally balances and a neutral balances flywheel like the 360/390 won't work.
no, 1979 and newer 460 are externally balanced. For 1978 and earlier (internally balanced), you need the neutrally balanced 360/390 flywheel to do the swap I'm doing.

Ok what happened to the 460 in 1972? Or am I getting engine families crossed up?
