Used Nav

To Mixer201---I own a 2000 Nav. Stock truck---love to drive it---hate to fix it--the first 50K it was in the shop for all kinds of things---I never got three yrs out of the warrantee as we exceeded 50K in that time--but got my money's worth out of the warrantee. The last 50K have been pretty good. knock on sheet metal. As for fuel; I tow a 3K boat in the summer so I usually fill up with 91oct during that time as I tow most everyweek. Initially I tried to tow with 87 and would get pinging when towing and encountering any type of hill.

However in the winter or if I'm not doing a lot of highway driving I use 87oct and have had no problem. I do use octane booster additive if fuel prices are peaking as they are now.

It's interesting. My owners manual clearly says 87oct--but when you open the filler door it clearly says to use 91oct. The dealer says everyone he knows uses 87oct. but you know why they say that! No one likes paying an extra 20c a gallon.

Well, while it's best to run premium in stock 32v Nav engines of that vintage, I do run lower under certain conditions and have 100K on the clock and hope to get more.

Hope that helps you!

Looks like the deal is about to happen. With any used vehicle I'm a little nervous. I did my best to look in and under the vehicle and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. Ran the VIN through Autocheck and came back clean although I do know they are not 100 percent accurate. Motor ran smooth and quiet. It felt very solid and tight on the road. And MAN what power for such a large rig!! Very strong right off idle, lots of torque which I much prefer over a high rpm motor.

pos2nat, I use Superchips FlashPac. Allows for lots of adjustments. Especially if you use oversized wheels.

Had the 01 Navigator for 2 weeks now. Doing fine so far. Opinions on what weight of conventional oil to use. I go back and forth on using 5w20 for winter then 5w30 during the summer OR 5w30 for winter and 10w30 for summer. Suggestions?
