question? the guy who owns the '05 6.0 that i am about to buy told me that he thinks the turbo is about to go out. he says that after about 10+lbs of boost when you back off the throttle and the turbo starts to spool down he hears a high pitched noise. he says that he thinks the veins are sticking and thinks that it is about to go out soon. is this the case? i know that there have been problems with turbos on these trucks but this truck has 72,000 miles and according to the oasis report has never been in the shop for turbo issues or any other issues for that matter. this wouldn't be concidered a problem truck would it?
It seems to me there are two kinds of 6.0's. Those who have had failed turbos, and those who will. An '05 with 72k miles is still under warranty. I have to wonder why the owner didn't get it fixed before trying to sell it. Should only cost him $100, or maybe nothing. Turbos are covered under the emissions warranty and carry $0 deductible.
If that's the only issue it would not worry me too much, but a bad turbo can cause head gaskets to blow, so delaying getting it fixed is not a smart move. Why not ask him to get it fixed under warranty before you buy it? Maybe have the dealer check it over as part of the deal.
BTW, some noise when you let off the throttle is normal, but I would not call it high pitched. It's called turbo fart, and most of my farts are not high pitched. Anyway, there is a good chance it just needs cleaning.
he did say that he would take it to the dealership and get it checked out before i bought it so that is a good thing. i just wasn't sure if it was going to end up being a problem in the future or not. also while it is in the shop would it be a good idea to see if i could have him put in some ARP studs?

Yea, that would be a GREAT idea. LOL. That ain't gonna happen unless it already has blown head gaskets. Even then you would have to find a friendly dealership. This is not the time to worry about studs.
you are right! i don't plan on doing any serious mods anytime soon anyways. what mods can i do before i have to worry about getting studs put in? would like a tuner, exhaust and an intake be ok?
Took my truck in today and they have found that there are 8 injector faults and it needs a new turbo. They have a lready cleaned it and the screech is still there. Hope to get it back soon. At any rate the shop foreman is personally handling the repairs on my truck as he is the only one that worked on it when the previous owner had it. He says it may need an injector driver module as well. First truck I bought from this dealership and I am very happy so far. He told me I would not get the truck back until he is happy that it is fixed right. A real pleasure so far...compared to my issues with the 04.
