My poor truck thought it had "marked it's territory" in the garage. That was until it got neg 30 degrees and my wife had to kick it out to make room for her car. I'm sure the trucks marking her territory in the driveway now.

Now, THAT'S FUNNY!!!!

My wife's car is in the garage, that's why I built a shop...

So, I tell her, "Stay the hell out of my shop!! Why do you think I bought you a house??"

I'm a little late with this response to your thread , but here it goes. In the 26 years I have been tromping around,in ,and on top of concrete ,I have not found a 100% effective sealer that does not wear off eventually. What I have always used on house slabs ,and warehouse floors ,is some stuff called Diamond clear. You basically mix it 50-50 with zylene in a pump sprayer and let it cure over night. You need to make sure all of the moisture is ouit of the concrete. I would say 3 weeks anyway. Apply 3 coats of this stuff in 3 days. You should have a very nice surface. If the contractor you used knows this will be an outside slab, he will know to put a broom finish on it. Once you put the Diamond clear on it, it won't fill in the broom marks. This will last you about 3-4 years. The only drawback with this ,like all the others,is if you spill gas ,deisel,or any other petro , and don't clean it up ,it will eventually blister the surface. They make epoxies, and other floor treatments, but they all do the same thing when exposed to fuel or oil dripping from a vehicle in the same spot. Just know that if you throw some litter or wipe the floor after you spill something , you will be fine. I used to use this stuff to seal floors after staining concrete for high end homes in Austin and Corpus Christi. It is a little pricey ,but there is an alternative. You can go down to Home Depot, and buy a 5 gallon can of Thompsons water seal. Put it in a pump sprayer, and it will last for about a year. But hey 5 gallons should do you for about 10 years. Just be sure to use a pump sprayer,it goes alot faster and you get better coverage. Hope that helps.

How long should I wait before the Thompson's option?

Let's assume I take an old truck. Say hypothetically a 59 f250. I put it up on jackstands and tinker happily away for a few weeks until I can take it off the stands and run it around town a while. During this time an evil gnome comes in the night and pours, spills or leaks a petro based substance on it without promptly donning his little hazmat suit and cleaning it up. In fact maybe one thing and another keeps me from getting it off the jackstands for a few months. At which point my wife notices the work of said gnome and

Do I respond

a) Don't worry honey! I sealed the concrete with presto-seal -- that stuff will was wash right off!
b) No I'm not washing that off -- it's patina -- the other old trucks will bully her if she hasn't marked off her turf! BTW look at this shiny trinket I bought you...

cool48,
Your response would indicate that no known sealer is going to enable me to use answer 'a' with any confidence. So do I go for answer 'b' and the powdercoated wheels and cardboard?

Whats a few oil stains, the first thing you should do is line the rot rod up real straight a lay down a set of black marks from one end to the other, now that is the way to seal your concrete.

Actually , my friend, The thompsons will last pretty long. But , like I say the Diamond clear is your best bet. As long as you wipe up spilled fuels or oils ,you should be fine. Thanks

Sorry about that cberry. Concrete ussually takes about 3 weeks to cure to it's desired strength(psi). But more importantly , it still has moisture in it until 3 weeks has past. I would wait 3 weeks to apply the Thompsons. Other wise you will get cloudy patches where the moisture is trying to come up through the surface. Hope that helped.

Thanks. I'll do that. Let' see if I can keep it clean for 3 weeks. But it seems like the Thompsons is a no brainer. The US Army says I'll need two gallons. (www.wes.army.mil/REMR/pdf/mds/se-1-15.pdf) Lowes says that will cost 30 bucks. (Plus $10 for the gas to get to Lowes.)

Seems hard to beat that.

Thanks all

Wow, only $10?? You must live almost next door!!

Gas jumped here $.25 in a couple hours. Going to start running Jack Daniels in my Jeep - it's a little cheaper...

The ultimat in concrete coatings... an old truck. Can't seem to insert a picture, but see my gallery! So far the only spill was a few drops of blood. If it stays clean all month I'll water seal it.

ok. Now I get it. Here she is ! Best of all got there under her own power. A bit spooky with only a questionable handbrake, but did I mention that she got there under her own power?
