360 exhaust mod

Got a 73 F100 w/360, currently running true duals through about 15" glass packs with 2" pipe in and out. Been on the truck at least 20 years, though it sat about 19 of those. Actually have no way of knowing exact age.

I don't like the raspy, poppop sound and want to change mufflers. First is the 2" ok? Really don't want to change from manifold to muffler if not necessary. I'm thinking about the Cherry Bomb turbo with 2 1/4 or 2.5 out to rear. I'm looking for a deeper more mellow tone. I'm also on a budget!

Also, I like the Y shaped outlets (looks like there are 4 pipes out the rear) what difference will that make in sound over conventional drop downs or the larger angle cut outlets.

Thanks for your help!

IMO, 2" is a little small. The popping is probably caused my the short glasspacks. Going to a larger pipe after the muffler will deepen the tone and will probably give you what you want when used with the turbo muffler. If you can afford it, use at least 2.25" pipe to the muffler then 2.5" after will help the tone. If not i wouldnt worry about it.

Use as many tips as you want, its not going to change the sound much. Much larger tips will also deepen the tone a little though.

I think the pipe is ok, but 2.25" would reallt be much better. You don't need to change it all, if you keep anything smaller, make it the part near the engine. That way, the faster moving hotter gases will just zip right through the smaller pipe without cooling down. That helps maximize bottom end power. As mentioned above, going progressively smaller to larger will help maximize the sound and deepen the tone and cut down on the popping. Also, glasspacks are going to tend to pop. If I were you, I would go for a more substantial muffler if the popping annoys you. I would suggest either a small bodied chambered muffler, like our FullBlown line, or the straight through WickedFlow MAX. Both are reasonably priced. Sorry we don't have all the mufflers added to our store yet, that is high on my priority list.
