Bigger shoes on my F350

Howdy, Im currently rolling Firestone 265/75r16 on my '01 350 4x4 Crew Cab. The front tires are shot and currently researching new and hopefully bigger tires. Im not looking to lift the truck right now but was looking at moving up to a 285/75??? Will i have any trouble with that size fitting? The rear looks as though there is plenty of room but am concerned about the front with the steering and all. Maybe someone has done it.

Are there any recommendations for 285/75r16 size for highway all season? I'd like to keep the load rating D or E. (sissy note- By the time i wear out a new set of highways, my infant son will be old enough to tolerate noisy tires and able to climb into a lifted truck)

Thanks for any help!!!

285/75R16 is a good size to move up to. They fit well on the stock wheels and normally don't rub (every truck is a little different).

Check out an all terrain tire from BFG, Toyo, or Nitto to start with.

the unit bearing hubs on them trucks do not like big tires.. or wide tires.. keep stock size tires unless you have a large wallet.

I don't think that going from 265 to 285 on that truck is going to make much of a difference.

Thanks for the responses. Yeah, 285's are all im looking to move up to now. Dont think i'll go larger until the next SD. I am looking at the 2.5" leveling lift for the front. Any recomends there? Mabye i should repost with this topic. I like the way it sits the trucks up level. But i do a lot of camper trailer and flatbed towing and wonder how that tounge wieght is gonna make her sit with that leveler on there.

Thanks for the tire suggestions too! I like those BFG AT T/A KO's.

I have a 3.5 Fabtech hanger kit on my truck and it leveled my truck out perfectly. However I don't tow heavy or haul really heavy. My truck is mainly used for plowing so it helps a lot with that. I always figured that if it effects my towing or hauling I would install air bags, but so far it has not.

BTW, you guys do realize that 285 tires are a 33-inch tire don't you.

I did finally figure that the up size is about 1/2" in the radius. Just a little, all im looking for. I havent heard before about the unit bearing hubs having a prob, but whether its the tire or just my truck im sure they will be something i need to look at soon. My sd has a type of butterfly effect...whenever im ready to make an inprovement/mod, something fatal comes up that costs twice as much!

My mechanic refered me to a tire installer here in eastern pa. He forwards many people to them because with all the other automotive repair he cant meet or beat their prices and speed. The stock the 285 BFG AT T/A KO's for $200/pc, E load. All four mount/balance for $59. Havent looked much on the web but does that sound about right for the tire cost?

That sounds about right. You could check with the Tire Rack to see what they could do for you. They are an FTE sponsor and very reasonable to work with.

Scheduled for the bfg's mounting tomorrow. AND... like i mentioned about my Murphys Law/Butterfly effect, my front right brake is moaning like a 10 ton dump truck. Need to take my camper in for inspec with the truck. Guess i'll dig up some extra green for whatever that fix will be.

I like tire rack for their in depth reviews and miles driven rating bar. Will let the board know what I think on the new rubber... Thanks for your help fellas

Wearing my new rubber

Got the new BFG AT KO 285/75/16E put on last week. Fantastic wholesale tire store with SUPER quick service in the greater Philly area if anyone is interested.

So far...I like them. Upgraded from some wornout 265 Firestone steeltex. Had thought I wanted the whiteletter but glad they came in black. I feel the road a little bit but not the noise. Truck feels a little sturdier overall, probably from the new tread. I didnt expect it from the larger tire. I have a 600mile roundtrip coming up next week; half towing. I will report on the hwy ride and mpgs.

Thanks to all the helpful replies in this thread.

285 will fit fine on a single wheel truck, but not on a dually without spacers
