(The master, TNT, requested I post this for his fellow 7.3ers )
Yep.. Redneck Mechanix Team was in FULL force today TNT In Round Rock and myself have been going over ideas on building a custom cover to fill the void between the toolbox and the stacks.. After weeks of figuring out the best idea and some spur of the moment light bulbs.. It all came together
Using a sheet of Treadbrite Diamond Plate, Aluminum Angle, Bolts and Marine Trim for Boat Compartments, we were set to work!
We spent the morning drawing out the template for cutting, then with some Redneck ingenuity, TNT went to hack with the Jigsaw.. I must say, it came out 100x better than we imagined.. We used Angle Aluminum that was left over to run the length of the Diamond Plate to strengthen it, it's pretty much rigid now. Also used the Angle Aluminum on the front of the bed and the side to create a plate for the Diamond Plate to sit on and bolt to.. The Diamond Plate was set in completely flush with the top of the bed.. We also had the Plate cut to slide underneath the toolbox, there is a lip on mine that from the inside of the box, we were able to put in 5 Screws to pull the Diamond Plate and secure it to the back of the toolbox. Made the entire section completely stable. You could probably stand on it without it bending.
Damn, now you've got my wheels turning. Its funny when it rains, i look out my rear view and i see a constant stream of steam coming off of the pipe and it looks like my truck is white smoking from the bed, and black smoking from the pipes.

You must be running hot as hell.. I never had that problem when I didn't have a cover.. Now all I'm fighting is those darn black little soot dots.. You were right bout those! LMAO
My toolbox looks like it got in a fight with a black spray paint can..
I did notice about a 200* drop in EGT's after moving to stacks!
i really like the look you have going on there with the stacks and the toolbox...a buddy of mine that ran stacks on his old truck cut out the shape of the stacks in the tool box and slide the box back flush with the back of the bed...in other words like a regular ole tool box with stacks protruding through it

That's why I would never run stacks. My truck is white so I could forsee the top & bed covered with dots...
Rep points awarded to both of you! That looks great! My toolbox was sprayed with Rhino Liner so it made sense to have my stack cover sprayed as well.
Thanks Rampage! I owe it all to TNT tho.. He was the man with the hand for cutting with a jigsaw.. I would have tore it up.. What really helped the most was being able to get a chunk of diamond plate cut in the size we needed.. The metal shop saved us a lot of headache, I was afraid we wouldn't get a custom cut piece..
But of course TNT made it happen.. Must be the old age..
