i just bought a 9000 pound winch and i want to be able to hook it up on the front and back. i need some ideas on the best way to anchor the winch on the front so it can be easily disconnected and attached on the back. i know that i will need to install quick disconnects for the electrical

easiest and best idea is to use/build a hitch mount.....

x2 on the hitch mounted winch, i believe there was a bumper build thread that had a hitch in the front bumper as well for the same reason, search for it, its not very old really.

That's what I'd like to do also.
Putting a hitch set up in the front and the rear is the way to go.

They make something that can hold up to a 9K lb winch for this exact reason, but I'm wanting at least a 12K lb winch and I'll use a ****** block as much as possible, so I'll want to build something custom/strong as hell, only problem is it will be pretty heavy....
It's still in the planning stages.

matt just an idea in my head. have the winch mounted to a plate of steel, then have the steel slide into a slot on either front or rear and have 2 pins to lock it in place, winch would slide in from back so pins arent holding all the weight. just an idea, could draw something up if you want more detail. also just came off top of the head.

IF I had $2,000 to waste, I could get something like this: http://www.winchesplus.com/winch-hitchwinch.html

But at 190 lbs with steel cable, that'd be one hell of a thing to haul from the front to the back.

I'd just get a piece of 2x2 .25 wall tubing, and a length of 8 inch wide c channel. Notch the c channel to fit the tube (for more mating surface) and maybe a brace to help with side pulls. It may weight 50 pounds without the winch, but it's not going anywhere.

You guys have any idea how the best way to mount a hitch(reciever) to my front bumper(pipe bumper)?

Or should I just make some kind of permanat cradle for a front winch?

what about just torching a square hole in the tube and sliding in a receiver and welding it in? Just one of the 20 dollar ones at tsc.

I thought about something like that, but I'm not sure if the PO filled it with concrete, that'd be about the only way to do it though huh..?

As for the rear? Same thing... torch a hole throught the bumper, or mount and brace it under it, or I don't know.?

I would do it through as opposed to under, just one less thing to get hung up on. When my bronco had the hitch on it, I was always getting it hung up on stuff, especially since it was one of the types that you can't remove the ball mount from. Night and day difference once I changed my rear bumper and ripped the hitch off.

On the 79 Bronco I would just put a piece of 6x6 x 1/4" tube over the frame rail (basically cut off the top section where it goes over the frame and reweld a piece of plate over the cut off section to bolt through). It will give enough surface area beyond the grill to mount a winch.
