hi i need a bit of help on a
1986 Ford F-150 4x4 short bed
true duel exhaust 302 5.0 EFI
I recently had a problem with the tail lights not responding thought it was a flasher or something in the fuse box so i took it loose under the dash.
well it was not that so i ran a ground spliceing a wire in the drivers side rear tail light and boom they worked
well after i fixed them i was putting things back together and saw a spark at the fuse box while i was hooking it up i didnt have the battery disconnected
thought it may be a fuse link somewhere may have gone bad i am still looking to find it or something elese could be bad any help is much appreciated thanks in advance.
i just have installed a new starter solenoid on the truck and hooked new wires to it wonder if it is some where there or under the dash or could it be a regulator it was working befor it had a small spark at the fuse box i checked all the fuses in there
Yep there are a few fusible links right next to the solenoid, Use a meter to test
them and then check your fuel pump relay it is on the drivers side firewall, Make
sure there is voltage going to the relay then check for a good ground at it also.
The wire for the fuel pump may have had a crack, arbrasion or got pinched
while working on something and then it got grounded when it moved and you
popped the fuse and burnt the wire in two, with the meter and a safety pin, stick
the pin in the wire every 12" until you find power/no power as the case maybe.
Autozone.com has wiring and vac diagrams online for free, enlarge it and print it
out then just leave it in the truck so it is always in there.!!
The fusible links over at the solenoid feed the fuse box, ignition switch, the alternator and the headlights. The are little colored rubber things in the wires. There should be one near the large connection on the solenoid that goes to the battery +, and if you follow this wire down, you should run into a splice with more fusible links.
i have figured thefuel pump out it was the wires i have been fooling with to get the tail lights working i knocked the wires loose from the inline pump that is on it guess it is suppose to have inline fuel pump but i thought it was in the tank.:S lol it is running now and passed the inspection here in west virginia the man first said i had to much rust on it to get some sheet metal 20 x 6 to cover the undercarrage i laughed at him and made some silly jokes but he put me a sticker on it lol .
