Have any of you guys heard of sea foam moter treatment and use it in your trucks. I have a 2001 f250 with a 7.3 and i was woundering if its ok to put it through my diesel engine.
My roomate is a huge diesel guy... 04 cummins and a 95 powerstroke. He has never put it in his cummins but adds a pint of it to his oil in the 7.3 and uses it as a top engine cleaner and swears by it. He dont put it in the fuel tho b/c he's got some other additive that is more cost effective
you certainly can not pour it in the intake like on a gasser, very bad for engine. the reason it works on gas engines is that the fuel is sprayed on the back of intake valves and it helps soften carbon depoisits so they flake off. on diesels the only thing in the intake is air so valves don't really carbon up anyways, the fuel injects directly into the cylinder. no pour into gas tank additive will do anything for exaust valve buildup, because its already burnt by the time it get to the exaust. as far as the exaust buildup on a diesel if you just work it hard enough it will burn itself clean kind of like a controlled burn in a chimney fire

I did mispeak myslef in the above post that you responded to. He puts it in the oil, not as a top engine cleaner. He uses power service with the slick diesel in the tank for lubrication and maybe water separater. He seems to like it, just thought I should contribute
as said by others the problem with adding stuff to the oil on the 6.0 is the fact that about 3 quarts of oil stay in the hpop and don't get changed. if you are ok with that, cool. alot of people are not so cool tho
I don't have faith in seafoam. I've tried it in the headstock of one of my lathes to see if it would clean off the crud film on the inside. I added a full can of seafoam to 4.5 quarts of 20w-50 ran it for 5 hours and took the cover off. Seafoam did nothing. Apples to Oranges comparision but.... I have a problem putting a solvent in my engine oil especially a harsh solvent like seafoam. I add fuel injector cleaner once every year and don't baby the truck, no problems.
