I have a '96 with around 267,XXX on it. heavy 3/4 ton Powerstroke. I need help, im tired of throwing parts. It seems to have the "hic-ups" when its cold. Only happens when the engine is cold. I have heard that its the CPS but I cant get a definite answer and I am tired of throwing parts. It "hic-ups" when your driving down the road...when your sitting still in gear...when its in park idling. I cant understand what its doing. I have ran tons of new filters on it...changed the oil a few times...run fresh pump fuel through it. I dont know what else to do. Sometimes it "hic-ups" so hard that I kiss the steering wheel. Usually when it dies I stop, cycle the key and its fine for a while longer. Its not just one "hic-up" and its done, its multiple hits over a period of time. Anyone with any advice or similar problems on their truck, PLEASE help me!
I don't know what you mean by "Tired of throwing parts". What have you changed? Have you checked with your local Ford dealer to see if your rig qualifies for the free CPS recall, installed? Even if not and you think that it might be caused by the CPS for under $20.00 you can change it yourself.
All it takes is a 10mm wrench and a screwdriver.
When it "Hicups" does the engine quit? When was the last fuel filter change?
You need to tell us more of what you have done to the truck then numerous folks with a ton of knowledge will chime in and give you the guidance that you require.
sorry KAWA, I have put a new fuel filter regulator, new injectors, new fuel lines, new batteries (because of a ghost battery light), new glow plugs, new glow plug relay, new starter (thanks to this cituation), switched out CPU, fuel filters every month, oil every month, air every month, only thing i have done is start switchint out sensors.
O i forgot, depending on how hard the "hic-up" is depends on wether the engine quits or not. This morning it started messin up and jus kept doing it until i backed out of it and then it died and i sat on the side of the road for 10 minutes until it would re-fire.
