96 Explorer/Spedometer Cable

I own a 96 explorer/automatic/v6 and lately on a cold start and when driving right after there is a horrible screeching sound. It sounds like it could be the spedometer cable but the sound goes away after the engine warms up. Is there an easy way to check to see if the cable needs to be lubed up or do i have to take into the shop.

there ISN't a speedometer cable for this year of vehicle and all. . . . . .

I'd be willing to bet it is your camshaft position sensor/syncronizer gear. In the good old days before D.I.S. it was called a distributor.
