His laptop is too old to support booting from a USB device.

Ben, here's another thought - you may be able to flash the BIOS to a newer version that will support booting from a USB device. Worth a try.

Also, if it has a floppy drive you can create boot floppies and install from CD from there.

I'm going to give all of these solutions a try.....as soon as I figure them out, and
the terminologies, and that's going to be a challenge for me.

Should be fun, right? RIGHT?

BTW, that site that I "supposedly" found, on my post #11, with the pics of that
connector thing, was actually posted by crera, on his post #8. Thanks

And again, thanks to all.

It's very informative.

Without knowing your BIOS and O/S, what you should be able to do is go into the laptop BIOS and set it to boot from a network device (set it to the 1st boot device), then over your network cable, grab a shared CD drive on the desktop PC. I usually copy the CD to a (virtual drive (G) to the HD so it goes faster.

It's a little more complicated than that, rebo. Network boot just doesn't work that way.
