This is for my cousins 89 suburban. He blew out the rear end and and we couldnt figure the gear ratio at all. We couldnt find the manual also. We have a couple of older chevy from the late 70s and and 80s. I was wonderin will a 70s rear end work a 89. also what were the gear ratios offered in 89 for a 4x4 suburban. I am unable to look up most website with my school labtop because they have so many programs that block out everything. Thanks
If you're certain he's running the factory ratio, look in the glove box for the RPO code list. I think it should be a Gxx code, then look up those RPO codes in one of several RPO code lists on the internet.
Thanks for the info, well i guess i dont any specs now. We took a close look and he only blew out the spider gears. were just going to weld them up sometime soon.
Check the tag on the front axle.It should give you the # of the ring and pinion. Most of those had 3.08's in them.Them options were 3.73 or 4.11. The rears wre weaklinks. If you can find a 12 bolt housing out of an 80 or earlier,I would definitely recommend it.
