Dipstick Problems
Alright....I finally got my suped up 351m into my truck. Now the problem I am having is finding a dipstick for the engine. It came out of a 78 F-150 4x4. It has threads on the oil pan and every part store I go into says that they don't carry it in stock. I have ordered about two dipsticks so far and I am tried of going back and forth. Oh yeah the local bone yards are no help either. Does anyone know what dipstick will fit this engine. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The dipstick and tube is at your local Ford dealer, and they will run you about $50.00 Bucks. That's where i had too go for mine after i ripped the one from my engine while trying too remove it from the truck. The whole time i was ripping, i was thinking " I can get one of these anywhere " WRONG! I hope your nearby Ford Dealer has one for ya', Good Luck. Rob

If your creative, you can use a brake line and fitting to make the tube. We did this on a friends truck when he changed pans and "lost" (I think it went into the field behind the garage!) the dipstick tube for a 400 rear sump. Don't remember what size though.

I also did what Chuck P. did. I had the dipstick and tube, but the junkyard messed it up so I couldn't use it. I bought a piece of 3/8 fuel line and made my own tube. I changed the oil and after that, kept trimming the top of the brake line down till the oil on the dipstick was at the right place.
