rear end and transfer case

I just changed fluids in rear end and transfer case what i did was drain the transfer case oil was like new but there was a build up of blackish grey grunge on the drain plug it was thick and semi hard i drained it and then refilled till it ran out of refill plug and let it sit till no more came out then sealed her up then I went to rear end and sucked out what i could then refilled till it ran out of hole then sealed her up but here is my question when i was all done i looked in owners manual and it said to leave level 1/4 to 9/16 below plug hole in rear end am i going to be ok or will i have to drain or suck some out of the rear end also is it normal to have transfer case oil to look like new as car has 92000 miles on it....thanks for any info on this

Transfer case oil in my 2002 Escape was also clean as new when I replaced it at 140,000 km (85,000 miles). I don't think it's a problem. Not sure about grunge on the drain plug, mine didn't have it. As for rear diff, leave it as is, there is nothing wrong to havt oil up to plug level.

the grunge was on the fill plug not drain plug as the magnet was covered in the grunge. come to think about it how often is the transfer case really working only when you are in 4wd i would presume and so it makes sense to have the oil be clean unless you use 4wd all the time
