It's been a while since either me or Cory has posted anything. Sorry about that but I lost my internet connection and Cory's just anti-social . Neither of us currently have running trucks but he is going to try to get his truck back on the road next week so we can try to use our dad's shop. I was never able to get a title for my truck so it's still sitting.
We have both started riding bikes. I have a little '03 V-Star and Cory's got a '00 Kawasaki Drifter. His is the better looking bike but I hope to fix that this summer . We both started ridding about the same time but Cory traded his bike ( a small Enfield). He got the Drifter in California in Janurary (that was a fun trip). I've been riding mine since August almost everyday and can't wait for warm weather again so I can stop freezing my you know what's off.
Now for the main reason I got the internet back again. We need help pretty fast. We recently used my tax refund to get some thing I have wanted for many years, a traditional street rod!! I got one that someone else had started and had gotten the hard stuff done. Unfortunately he lied to me a little. While still a pretty good deal I found that it still had some welding needed and the frame needs some work. I don't know what he was thinking but the frame is just and L channel in front of the engine. As a result it's very weak, in fact it broke right after we got it off the truck. At least it didn't break going down the highway.
We had planned on working on this just getting the wiring and plumbing done on it. Now we need to weld the frame as well as some body mounts and beef up a few areas. The problem is we can't weld. We also don't have a shop to put it in unless we can get our dad's, which may not happen. I have a friend I work with that is willing to help me but not for a few months because he already has another frame in his jig.
What we need is someone that can help us with fixing the frame and mounts so we can go ahead and finnish the wiring etc. Now we wouldn't be in as much of a hurry but this stupid town I live in has started complaining about it already. I have only had it for 3 days and they sent the letter to me the day I got it!! They have given me 10 days to move it out but I am going to try to get a little more time because the city ordenance say's the car has to be inoperable for 30 day's before it has to be moved.
If anybody thinks they can help with this PLEASE let me know because I would really hate to have to get rid of it before I even have a chance to try to finnish it!
I've a 110V wire feed welder, but I'm not sure my skills or the welder are up to what you need. Also, with the price of fuel, Burrton is quite a ways from Manhattan.
The car started life as a 1928 monel a. It has a custom frame under it and the body has had the doors removed and the cowl moved back sort of like a t-bucket. The engine in it now is a 250 6 out of a chevy van. I plan on replacing it with a 300 6 like is in my 67 F-250. I just love the ford 300 but for now I'll use the chevy. The car is really not bad except for the front frame.
I have access to a trailer also so I can haul the car just about anywhere in central Kansas. The further away the harder it's going to be coming up on weekends to work on it though.
Here's our biggest problem area. The other side has started to crack but hasn't broke yet.
I forgot to mention, when I can find one I can afford, I would like to put a mid 30's truck cab on it and z the frame. But that's going to have to wait until I can learn to weld good and can do it myself.
Burrton finally trying to clean up the town huh. Well I have a 220 Lincoln Arc that I have never used and it is practacally brand new. Here lies the problem though......... I don't have 220 in my garage yet. If you have 220 some where close to your driveway I could possibly bring it to Burrton to use at your place. Or if you know anybody that has access to 220 we could do it there. As you know I am in Burrton all the time and could swing by and run a bead (weld) for ya.
They're trying to clean the place up but at my expense. It would not be so bad if they would actually follow the code and give me the 30 days. Besides, they haven't even had any complaints about the car!!
I don't have 220 either but thanks for the offer. I talked to my uncle today and found out he has a 220 arc welder as well but he doesn't know how to use it. He also has 220 in his shop but it is not wired to use the welder. He say's I can go ahead and finnish up the wireing in the shop and use the welder. It will have to be done outside in front of the shop though because he has an old Galaxie that he is restoring but I don't think that should be a problem. I am going to talk to a guy I work with and see if he could come out and help me with it. The only problem is he isn't a car guy so it will be all up to me to make sure I have everything correct before he welds it.
Trust me Carl I have seen your house and it should be the least of their worries considering most of the other houses in that town. I really like the garage door art just off of mainstreet. If I were them I would be worried about a street tod too.
On the other hand I am glad you found a welder and a shop. Keep us posted on that slick vehicle!
I don't know squat about welding, but I had an 03 650 V-star Custom up until October. Traded it in on my 07 1300 V-star tourer. Looks like someone dropped yours?
My bike has never been dropped. At least not that I know of. I had to look at the pictures for a minute trying to figure out why you would think it was dropped. I'm guessing your seeing the reflection of the 28's gas tank.
