Just got done doing a few simple mods to my truck today. For starters, I cut the airhorns in the intake tubes of my 97 F20 4x4. Not hard at all and took about 15-20 minutes.
According to the laws of physics in the automotive world, if you mod the intake you should mod the exhaust right??? Well, after some deep digging I found out that magnaflow makes a universal 3" tailpipe for trucks. For 50 bucks (plus handling) it can land on your front porch from Summitracing. So my muffler went away and was replaced with a $9 filler tube from the local muffler shop.
Trucks sounds all kinds of better and revs a hair quicker. Can't say that I feel a seat of the pants difference in power, but the sound alone was worth it. Not too loud, but definitely has an authoritive rumble.
Something interesting though... after cutting off the old exhaust and removing the air horns, I took her for a spin around the block. I'm not sure if there wasn't quite enough backpressure, or the computer hadn't adjusted yet, but the truck ran smoother after the tailpipe was installed. Weird...
Next week... a tune-up!
I have done quite a bit myself with this truck (pictures in profile)
The (cigar roller and tape ) Rustolium Paint Job pictued here was done for $45
In the can , off the shelf (home depot) , Gloss Sunburst Red.......And touch up's are a perfect match every time.
I just got rid of the week AOD Transmission in my truck and put a S.B. C6 Transmission in.
The new metal transmission lines I am bending are going to pulg into the old A/C raidiator, and with the addition of and inline oil filter and deep pan..............Super cool
I'll keep this in mind. For right now, I'll run with it as is. One of these days I'll look more into opening up the exhaust some more. Headers would be awesome, but since they start at 3 or 4 hundred...
