Muffler delete= check engine codes and poor performance?
Anyone ever heard of this? I bought a piece of 3 1/2" pipe with 35* bends in it in order to do the muffler delete straight pipe on my exhaust. I took it to a friend of mine's shop and he told me he didn't want to put it on. He said in his opinion, it would most likely throw a code because of the EBPV not getting enough back pressure( he says it should have 12lbs of BP) and that it would hurt performance because of less swirl in the heads because of the lack of back pressure(he said that it would probably drop down to less than 2lbs). I have never heard anyone mention this when the idea has been discussed here. He said that he would do it if I really wanted him to, but he didn't think it was a good idea. Any input?
I know you said he was you friend but I think you might want to go somewhere else. straight piping an exhaust and reducing your back pressure isn't going to give you any codes. You want that exhaust outta there.
Did you tell him it's a turbodiesel? Pretty funny the way he came up with numbers for the BP and talked about swirl like it was a NA gasser with valve overlap and all.
THe only problem I encountered was this wierd rush of crazy cold air in the cab during winter. I think the 5" altered my pass window becuase every time I start the truck, it goes down.
how about a double bullsh.it burger with a side of turd totts, because that is what he's trying to feed you. it is the best thing you can do to one of these diesels! have had mine done for about 2 years and still find myself reving it next to buildings and in tunels with the pass window cracked.

Straight piped it about a year ago and I have not seen any codes at all.
Take it to another shop. Or do it your self. It's not that hard. I did mine by myself, just took my time installing the 4" flow thru turbo back exhaust. At first with the muffler, then with the muffler delete pipe.
And if you are going to cut, measure, measure, measure. Because once you cut it, it's too late (Take it from me, 1/2 inch too short is too short), that's why I had placed the muffler on because the muffler delete pipe was now 1/2 inch too short and I had to get another.
