Lower Control Arm Bushings - Pressed In?
#2
Can't say for sure, but on my '98 Navigator they are and I think they are all the same. It is fairly easy to replace them if you have the tool. When I bought the ball joints at my local AutoZone I used their loaner tool kit. It is a big C-clamp with adaptors and sleeves for R&R. There is a big c-clip on top that is tehre to retain them. While your in there you should alos do the top ball joints. These are not serviceable separately, you must replace the Upper A arm assembly. This includes the big rubber bushings and ball joint. I was surprised how cheap they were. You may also want to do the tie rod ends while you're at it. The truck is so much better now, no more annoying steering wheel shimmy. There is a good R&R procedure on this site that details the replacement. Here's the link.

Thanks for the thoughts. Based on your comments I think you are talking about the lower ball joints and I agree, those are definitely pressed in. I replaced them last year. I am wondering about the lower control arm bushings. I think they are pressed in as well.
Has anyone replaced them and if so do you need to remove the control arm and press in the bushing?
Thanks,
Jim
