I have a 1978 F-150 Custom 4x4, and i want to decode the tag, but the problem is there are no codes printed on the tag below the vin (ex: body, paint, trans) all i know from the vin is it is a 78 F-150 4x4 originaly equiped with a 351 2v, and that it was built in canada. i want to know the rest but what do i do to find out? can ford tell me? the vin is F14HCBExxxx. i want to know the gears and axle info
here is what i can recognize on the truck:
-C6 trans
-NP 203 T-case w/ full time 4x4
-single cab/long bed
-power steering
-power brakes
-rear rating of 3580lbs
-front rating of 3150lbs
-HD DANA 44 front axle
-9inch rear
-rear factory lift blocks
i am the second owner and the original owner assured me nothing had been swapped, even during the frame off 8yrs ago
NOTE: this truck is only capable of 82mph so im guessing low geared??? maybe 4.11:1???
the problem is there are no codes printed on the tag below the vin (ex: body, paint, trans) and it has 33's but it still has the stock spedo gear. i will check the firewall tag tonight
The buck tag on the firewall doesn't have much info on it besides VIN#,Trim codes,Rotation number,Type of Box, Maybe the Transmission code.
Basically,it contains Info about major components that are crucial to the actual assembling of the truck... as parts/components are pulled from a storage facility and delivered to their line position ready for installation.
there is a door jam sticker, but it dosnt have the codes on the bottom... it has the vin and everything else, but not the codes, and the buck tag is missing
