Wastegate delete?

Read about this on one of those "other" PSD sites- unhook the red vacuum line from the wastegate and cap both the vac line and the fitting on the wastegate off for increased boost- anyone on here tried this? I figure it's free and can't hurt anything so I'll probably try it when I get my 6637 and exhaust installed.

You only need to plug the boot on the red line to one of your CAC tube bolts. That is it. Yes, you will boost faster and more. Wonder why the WG is on the stock unit? It has to do with turbo longevity and not any interest in losing the HP wars with the other two builders. If you don't nail it daily, you should be OK. I disconnected mine for drag strip runs and the dyno, but otherwise it stayed on.

I know the WG is there for a reason, but figured once I get my gauges in this is a free mod and if boost pressures are getting too high I can easily undo the mod.

when i took mine off without the WW i would always get the overboost code and now with the WW installed never blows any codes and spools up the turbo a little fast IMO

I wasn't trying to be a smarta$$. I figured I would just answer the question before it was asked. The WG is there to bleed off excessive boost as the unit is designed to spool quickly down low in the rpm band. This makes it very responsive (less lag) to throttle input but by design, the higher hp area in the upper rpms is where the turbo becomes inefficient and the egts begin to climb. Operating in this area is where the lifespan of the stock turbo bearing system is shortened considerably.

Yes, it is free and I did it with my stocker. You don't need a gauge to know when you get to that area as you will hear and feel it. The turbo seems to be choking itself out. I tried to stay away from that area. Go ahead and check it out. With the line disconnected you will build boost quicker and that is fun.

Mike, I didn't take your post as a smarta$$ respsonse at all, sorry for the confusion. I was mostly just clarifying that I know what the wastegate was designed to do, and that if I do this and the results are less than favorable at least it's easy to un-do.

No biggy. I just thought I would explain while I was at it. Sometimes that answers another question before it is asked. It's all good Chase.

I run mine like that full-time. Before I put the WW on, I had surge issues so keep that in mind. I can feel a noticeable drop in performance with it connected, so mine stays off permanently.

Since I just got my Tuner back, I nailed it on 140 Extreme -- the temps fairly low here right now, so I easily hit 28 psi and shut it down. I want a BB turbo, but not just yet...

Anything over 25psi is going to shorten the life of that stocker turbo...

You can eliminate the overboost code and the defueling with a Mapfooler but that will also help kill the stock turbo...

Question- I re-read the info on doing the wastegate delete, and it mentioned adjusting the brass rod on the top of the wastegate to keep it from dumping precious boost out the tail pipe (which sounds like a real PITA to do). If I decide to go ahead and do it, will it be hard to re-adjust it back to the way it was if I decide I want (or need) to?

Yes you can... but the hardest part is taking that little C clip off and not lose it. Next time I have the turbo off I will replace mine with the turbomaster wastegate controller... that way the adjustment are all made without removing the clip anymore...

My question was, how hard is it going to be to re-adjust if I decided to go backwards?
FWIW, I ran 5-6 miles with the red hose unhooked, and 3-4 miles with it hooked back up. I couldn't tell any difference, except that when I'd stab the throttle while idling it would return to idle quicker with the red hose hooked up.

You could probably paint a line on there or just remember how many turns you twisted it.... I don't know for sure but something like that... You might want to go to Napa and pick up a few extra clips too... just in case..

hopefully somebody will chim in... and let you know which way it should be twisted and how much may be too much???
