Lightbulb Installing a radio from scratch

So I've got this nice radio that I want to install in my truck, it's a '77 F150, but there is nothing of any sort of a wiring harness for a radio. I'm just wondering if it's as simple as just getting a power source to the radio, a ground, and then hooking up the speakers?

Anyone have any tips?

that would be it. Need a memory wire, that is constantly hot, a power wire that is hot with key on, a ground and thats it. Then its just hooking up speakers as you see fit. Dont foget to plug in the antenna lead also. I ran the memory wire from a the battery then used a unused slot in the fuse block that was hot only with key on. Ran a ground back to the fire wall, pretty short. I did this in my 69 f-250 and it worked good for me.

If you want to get fancy, use a toggle switch to let you choose between an "always on" and "ignition" (or "accessory") power source for the radio. Then you can play music without the keys in the ignition, which can be useful when you're working on the truck, or camping and drinking.

what i've done with my mustang is i will just wire the yellow and red wire togther with always hot power! however, i have a radio that i could completely turn off power to. some radio's however will have some kind of display light until all power is completely off.

so if you have a radio you could completely turn off with a button, then just wire them together. the red is 12v switch, the yellow is always hot! the black of course is ground!

yea the only problem about that is if you forget to turn the power off, like if you get distracted and the volume is down or muted. Walk away from vehicle, and come back to dead battery! Good example of something i would do!
