I was thinking about the metal tags too. From the photos, I can't see them. I have an 8.8 under my truck, so I "assume" your rearend would have them too. I wonder if the gear ratio has been changed, or if its been into before. I can't tell if thats rtv sealant around the cover or not.

yeah i have no idea what gear ratio i have. ive gotta pop off the cap and have it checked. imma do it when i change out all the fluids in the new few weeks. id be very happy if they were already changed. hard to say though. you would guess yeah cause of the lift and what not but we'll see. if the gears turn out to be stock, whats a good ratio for my truck? considering its lifted with fat tires. thanks guys.

Bobby, you sure about the equivalent? Maybe in ring gear size

Four wheeler magazine did a ford 9.75 build up a little while ago, and in the article they had a chart comparing the ford 9.75 to a dana 60.
http://www.fourwheeler.com/techartic...tos_specs.html
<TABLE cellSpacing=3 cellPadding=2><TBODY><TR><TD colSpan=3>SPECIFICATIONS</TD></TR><TR><TD colSpan=3>Ford 9.75 Semi Float vs Dana 60 Semi Float</TD></TR><TR><TD>Axle</TD><TD>9.75</TD><TD>Dana 60</TD></TR><TR><TD>Ring gear dia.</TD><TD>9.75</TD><TD>9.75</TD></TR><TR><TD>Pinion shaft dia.</TD><TD>1.970</TD><TD>1.625</TD></TR><TR><TD>Axleshaft splines/dia.</TD><TD>34/1.37</TD><TD>35/1.50</TD></TR><TR><TD>Axleshaft min. dia.</TD><TD>1.29</TD><TD>1.36</TD></TR><TR><TD>Axle tube dia./wall</TD><TD>3.25/.180</TD><TD>3.12/.250</TD></TR><TR><TD>Output torque max</TD><TD>6,100</TD><TD>5,500</TD></TR><TR><TD>Output torque cont.</TD><TD>1,500</TD><TD>1,500</TD></TR><TR><TD>GAW</TD><TD>4,500</TD><TD>5-5,500</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

These stats are comparing the semi float dana 60, so im guessing if they were comparing the full floater dana 60 it would have much higher load carrying capablity.

Good info Bobby, I would have never thought the 9.75" was nearly as strong as a Dana.
Thanks for the link to

a good ratio for your rear end would be 4.56 or 4.10 thisll put you back into the stock power band. with those big tires your out of your power band right now check this out (click here)
look at the third or fourth down. 4.10 or 4.56 are what you need to spin the big rubber you have on there now, 4.10 will put you about equal to the stock set up and the 4.56s will give you a slight advantage and better torque (not more torque, it wont in crease your torque, itll just let you use it!) at take off.

thanks for the link man. im going to look into it. who knows, i might already have diff gears. gotta pop off the cap and look though. but yeah, the 4.56 sounds more to my liking. i know the higher the gear the worse the MPG but thats cause you get more torque. cancels each other out. were gonna have to discuss this more tomorrow at the meet. what kind of gears do you got brian?

unfortunetly due to being in college and having a GREAT (that was sarcastic) job as a grease monkey i dont have the money to get new gears, so i still got my 3.55s out back, but that will change someday
