This is my first post so please bear with me. I just purchased a 1951 F-1 and found the following information in the glove box.
Engine# FIRIKC20077 Model #W8C
I know the KC stands for Kansas City and I also know that it had a V8. I used the onsite decoder and it gave me that information. Anything else you can tell me about my new project???
Mark,
Welcome to the board!!! Sorry, I can't help you with the decoding but someone will come along and give you some details before too long.
I notice you are in Albuquerque, cool! There are several members here from the Alb area. I'm out in Rio Rancho (I know, I know, but there's reasons for it.....mom doesn't like to cross the river...lol)
Give us some details on your project; is it a restortation, or a four link rear, independant front, oodles of chrome and horsepower street machine, orjust something in the middle? When you get settled in try your hand at getting a gallery set up. e love pics around here. If you need help with pics theres a "stickied" thread at the top of the forum that will walk you through it
Hi Mark
I am also new to the site. But I was thinking that someone
would have jumped on that like a cat on a june bug if thats
the correct VIN number
Take care Bob
I'll add my welcome, and add some information. Besides my 52s listed below in the signature, I also have a couple of 51 donor trucks. One of them is F3R1KC15275. According to the books, early 51s had VIN numbers (Serial No.) assigned using the same format that was used in 50. Late 51s used a format that was carried over into 52. The books say that the change occurred after Sept, 15, 1951. Your truck, though, like mine adds proof that the change to the 52 style number occurred well before Sept. 15, '51. My truck, when it was being assembled at Kansas City, had scratched into the firewall under the hood the following: #9 3/12/51.
My truck also has a Model # designation on the glove box door plate that, like mtflat said, no source explains. Mine is "WBY". I'm comfortable saying that the "C" in yours reflects that it is a F-1. Just as the "Y" in mine I'm sure reflects that it is a F-3. In the parts books F-1s are coded as "C", F-2s are "D", F-3s are "Y", and F-4s are "TL". The heavier trucks get more involved. What the "W" at the front of both our Model #s represents I have no clue. Your "8" could be for V8, but I'd think mine would be the same. My plate clearly has a "B", not an "8". Are you sure yours is an "8" and not a "B"? I pulled my plate just now to look more closely at it, and it is a "B".
I suspect too that your truck has a firewall plate that lists your F1R1KC20077. The firewall plates were used from 48 to early 51, then eliminated in late 51 and 52. So, I'd guess that your truck came down the assembly line at KC a short time after mine since the last five digits of the VIN were assigned in sequence. Hope that helps.
