I just replaced my entire cooling system, as I posted in another thread. Not one coolant leak! I usually have to jimmy a hose clamp or 2 to stop leaks after this type of job, but not one!
Anyway, I do have tranny fluid leaking where the tranny coolant lines go into the radiator. I have the fittings tighter than they were with the original radiator. They are leaking where the nut that holds the coolant line into the nut that is like the bung hole in the radiator. Should I use some type of thread sealant such as RTV or teflon?
Tape will do nothing! those holes are flare fittings the flare on the end is the seal surface not the nut. You likely got some smeg on the flare when pulling the old rad now its stuck inbettwn the tank flare and the line flare. Pull it out and wipe it off use a Q-Tip to wipe the rad flare and try it again. if not replace the line.
Problem solved! I had to get fittings from the Ford dealership. They are fittings that go on the radiator to which the nut on the coolant line goes into. I must have not gotten them off of the original radiator. The nut on the coolant line seemed to have fit perfectly into the radiator without the fitting. The teflon tape did not work. It was nice because the fittings threads were already packed. None of the auto parts stores in my area had the fittings. The stealership was the only place. Lesson learned.
Anyone else needing the parts, and not wanting to go to the dealer, try your local heavy truck parts/equipment dealers-mine can make lines and has just about every fitting out there, except the oddball ones i needed just once for a BMW. Prices where I live are cheap by comparison to dealer.
