I'd be posting like crazy. My truck is a shortbed fleetside. Does a stepside bolt right on? I would like to convert to the stepside and do the wood bed. So far i have the frame ready. The engine has been rebuilt (350 chevy, don't hate me), and the tranny has been rebuilt.
I am by no means an expert, but i believe that the STYLESIDE bed is much rarer(SP) then the stepside bed. Dont just junk the old one if you must go to the stepside.
It's OK for him to call it "fleetside & stepside" cause he's putting a 350 in it. I'm not hatin just pokin fun. The ford terms are styleside and flareside. Some folks really get their pannies in a knot over trivial things. Welcome to FTE. To answer your question I think it is a direct bolt on swap.

Just trying to save him the pain, as you mentioned some get very particular with their terms, didnt want him to get hammered.
I am assuming you have seen one of these trucks with the flareside on it? It looks totally out of place when compared to the styleside IMHO. But with that said, there are going to be a lot of parts you'll need to account for unless you find some who would like to swap beds with you or have patients. The parts aren't cheap and some look like they will bolt on but are off just enough to keep it from working. The lower trim pieces are the ones I am referring too. LMC lists the parts cheaper then anyone I know but they aren't the best fitting ones. So with the reduced price comes more frustration.
I may. My dad has a '78 F150 and we just built a 351c for his. The truck came with the 350 and i have already sunk some $$ into it. I know it was very hard finding a lot of the parts forthe cleaveland, you can get 350 parts anywhere. maybe i will look at a Windsor. Those seem readily available.
Well check out the classifieds here. A lot of times members will post whole engine/transmissions for decent prices. The Chevy motors are a dime a dozen and simple to work on but so is Ford if you know what you're doing. Getting a handle on interchangability is the real fun. The interesting fact is that both 350/351 are exactly 180 degrees out from one another. The firing order is the same but backwards as is the rotation and location of the distributor. You'll see what I am talking about if you crunch the firing orders.
