Hey all you 2bbl motorcraft experts. I've got a problem with my 78 F150. It has a 351m and c6. It is basically stock. After she's warmed up to normal temps and taken on the road at cruising speeds she'll sputter/buck in all gears and if pushed eventually dies. I let her sit for a few minutes and start her back up and she'll get further but do the same thing down the road. Are there any internals on the 2bbl motorcraft carb that could be causing this?
If you've got the patience to read the whole story I've got two posts in the 72-79 Truck forum; "She's Giving me trouble Again" and "She's Giving me Trouble again, Part Two".
Parts added/repaced are:
-rebuilt distributor(from Oreillys)
-Cap & rotor
-rebuilt motorcraft 2v carb(gone thru two in the last 7 months from AutoZone)
-Borg Warner top line electronic Ign Control Module(even tested on the Borg Warner tester to make sure it was good.)
-plugs
-Taylor 8mm plug wires
-Accel coil
-true dual flowmaster 40 series mufflers
-fuel pump
-two fuel filters(cut the first one open and it was clean)
-all rubber fuel lines replaced
-fuel lines blown clean
-gas tank taken apart and inspected
-filter/sock taken off of fuel pickup in tank
-see thru filter placed inline between tank and pump
-air filter replaced
-carb settings checked
-holds steady 17 of vacuum
I would seriously take a look at your EGR valve, it can very well cause just the symptoms that you have I keep the vacum line off and pluged on mine until inspection time because I get a hesitation at cruise and when I lightly touch the gas. Yours is much more dramatic, disconnect the vacum line to it and plug the line and go for a drive.
The EGR was not connected when I bought the truck. The egr plate was still sandwhiched between the carb and intake but the back opening was welded shut. This past weekend I replaced the egr plate with a phenolic spacer and it keeps the carb cool, but hasn't solved my problem.
Cigar, I left a post on your other thread about the pump cam eccentric being worn. This would not let the pump work correctly. That's all that I could think of that hadn't been addressed. If it has already, then disregard.
If you slowly feather the gas will it still die or does it die if you punch it. I am thinking accelerator pump and or the little rubber valve (not sure what the right name is) behind it. Might be the problem.
I kinda had a similar problem about a month ago. I replaced all kinds of stuff (plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel pump, fuel filter, etc.). Started messing with the carb and when I took the accelerator pump off, that little rubber valve fell apart in pieces when I tried to remove it. Truck is running good after replacement.
I know this is your 2nd remaned carb but give it a look anyway.

If I slowly feather the gas when the symptoms start it will slowly get me home. If I keep my foot on the gas to drive it at normal speeds it'll sputter and die.
What is that part that you refer to? Do you have any pictures of it? I am unfamilar with carb internals.
