If I accidently pulled off the vacuum line from the tranny modulator when I was getting stuck in the snow, could I possibly still have my reverse gear but not my forward gears? Could the solution be that simple? I'm a real newB, even though I've owned this Aero for almost 9 years!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks - VTAero

Where is the tranny modular? works/doesn't work ...

How about the reverse? If I was backing into a soft snowbank (yes intentionally) and the van got stock, then I rocked the van back and forth to free it. Then I was able to go backwards, but none of the forward gears get the van going. I can move the shifter into all the gear positions, but the wheels won't turn in the forward position! HOWEVER, when the van is put up on a lift, the wheels do move in the forward position! Maybe my auto mechanic doesn't know where the tranny modulator is!! Can you tell me how to find it? 91, 4.0, AWD, extended..
Depending on the mileage of your van, you may have to accept the reality that the clutches in the forward drum are all worn out. The reverse clutches hardly ever wear out, that's why you still have reverse.

Same van owned here. Its hard to see or feel for because its almost directly in the middle and above the heat shield, on the passendger side of the transmission.
Are you certain you did not bend or damage the shift cable/linkage in the process? Just a small amount of bend or stretching will give improper engagement because the transmission is essentially "between gears" as far as the valve body is concerned.
This may be why there is a small amount of forward motion when the wheels are off the ground but not enough to turn things when off the jacks.
