Fan Weight/Options?

I have been changing my water pump and never really paid much attention to the OEM fan untill I picked it up to clean it and noticed that puppy must weigh 15-20 pounds.

Is there and alternative replacement that weighs less? That fan is a horse (Power) thief. I can't run without it as I pull a 5th wheel.

Any suggestions are always welcom.

Rog

IdMooseMan, If you look here it says
"Ford Trucks
80-96 F series Trucks
80-96 Full size Bronco
03+ Expedition
04? F150 – "
http://www.flex-a-lite.com/auto/html...-electric.html

Although I don't know if that would flow enough for a diesel...

IIRC correctly that kit was around $500. A little steep in my book.

I've been looking for good deals on the 16" perma cool but nothing has came up. I'm thinking of just buying two from JEGS at $139 a piece and fabbing up my own...But thats pricy too...

It was an old issue and aparently they don't have one for our trucks.

http://www.flex-a-lite.com/auto/html/278-diesel.html Its for 99-03s but may work and they have all sorts of universal stuff that should pull enough cfm

Thanks, Robb. That's the one I found. i think the diesel needs to flow about 5000 - 5500 CFM. And why they stopped at '96, I don't know. Anyone have a '96 they wouldn't mind measuring the radiator dimensions and depth from rear face to front of engine. I'd appreciate a PM. This is something I want to do, but don't want to half-*** it.

George - that's why I'm considering dropping my subscription to Diesel Power. They started out interesting, but I'm not interesting in lifting my truck to the moon or holding a concert with an audio system I can't afford to put in my house.

What do you guys think of this one? sould be bigg enough right? http://www.flex-a-lite.com/auto/html/universal.html

There must be a way to determine the CFM of a fan but I'm too dumb to know how to do it. (Thinking junk yard)

Anyone know????

The stocker flows something like 6000 cfm at 3300 rpms. It flows serious amounts of air. Since it has an air clutch, the drive ratio is not always 1:1 though.

The 16" perma-cool fan flows 2950 cfm. It's the biggest electric fan that I've found. Put two of those on a custom shroud and you'd be fine unless your pulling mountain passes.

There has been quite an argument about electrics keeping up with the stocker.

If the stocker puts out 6000 CFM and Electric 2X 2950=5900 CFM would
100 CFM really make that much difference taking into concideration that you now have more HP and less drag on the engine when pulling grade? Hmmmmm
