Hello, this might be of some help to you or it may not.
Turn the radio off and start the engine. The cab should be quiet, then turn the 4wd **** to 4wd- the solenoid should make a faint "click" noise to determine if its working or not and the instrument panel "4x4" light should come on. The physical solenoid is located on the passenger side under the hood near the firewall.almost in the upper left hand portion when opening the hood.
hi it does make a sound when i turn the **** but the sound is coming from the side of the transfer case and not from the solenoid on the firewall and the light doesnt come on in the dash but if you turn it quick enough back and forth it flickers

If the solenoid clicks that's a good sign..it may be the vacuum line not making connection since it sounds like the solenoid is OK. Try this- lightly tap on the actuator motor attached to the transfer case, if you don't use the 4wd much the motor gets stuck, a small hammer can do the trick.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->
there is a vacum line on the drivers side front that is open but it looks like its from the factory open like that
You could check the other side to see if the passenger side is the same. The idea is that when you flip that switch to 4wd Hi the vacuum line releases its vaccum on the line to give you 4wd. I'm not sure anything should be "open" or not. Sounds like the system should be sealed to prevent debris from entering the system. I'm no expert by any means. I wish I could be of more help to you.
