daytime running lights

is there anyway i can turn these off on my X

My x came from canada so i think by law they have to have then on all the time.
But here in the UK we dont need them.

I have been trying to find out how to turn them off and read somewhere that i can remove a resistor and they should function ok without it in place.

but i cant find where it is ?

has anyone else managed to turn them off ??

thanks in advance

So they don't have a separate fuse in the Main junction box?

Like MONSTA said pull the fuse.

If that is not dable then unplug the light connectors or take the bulbs out.

i cant take the lights out as they are the same ones that i use for night driving.
the daylight running uses about 80% power, but when i turn on the light switch they get full power.

i have found this on the super duty forum , i'll try this & see if it works
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...ng-lights.html

hopefully this will be correct. i think i have the 'heatsink' like unit under the hood

thats what i was looking for, its about 3-4 inches long so dont know why i could not find it before (i guess i was looking for a small fuse)

and it works, just unplugged it, and no more lights on all the time

now , there must be a weight saving of about 1/2 oz. and without the lamps on all the time , means less power needed to run this beast.

should i be able to double my mpg now

it was under the hood, just on the left hand side of the light on the drivers side (as looking from the grill) next to the radiator .
removal was very easy (socket set)
then just undid the little clip for the wire.

you could probably just unclip the wire and leave it there , i only took it off as i will probably never use it again.

3 minute job.

i noticed the resistor i think it is when i bought the truck, but i always thought it was something to to with the aircon units.

if you want a pic explaining where it was , let me know & i'll get one done tommorow (its too dark here at the mo , 9.pm)

Thanks for the information I appreciate it. I will check out my X to see if has the same setup. I hate the way the lights come on by themselves ...all the time.

thanks again,

i kinda wanna put them on a aftermarket switch so the DRL's would be optional so i could shut them off if i wanted but normally they would be on.

i would imagine that would be no problem.

as if the fuse (thingy) was removed it would make no difference than if a switch was in the circuit.

but really its a 20 second job when you know where it it.

well i was faced with the problem at the lazer car wash with lazer light rock and roll show.. i was trapped in the auto wash trying to watch the lazer light show as the ex was getting washed and couldnt shut my lights off.. unless i turned the igniton off then i couldnt hear the rock and roll show being brodcast over my radio on their freq.. so the lazer lights were not as spectacular as they could have been with my headlights shining on the scree the lazers project on.

sound like fun , i know what you mean , the drl are bright.

if you unclip the wire running to the fuse (thingy.....i still dont know whats its called )they will go off. and nothing gets damaged , we dont have dlr in the uk , to be honest they are damn annoying and by the sounds of it if you like the darkness at times then you will have to disconnect it.

you will run the truck , the truck will not run you young padwan

The info provided here has been most helpful. I coundnt figure out why my truck had the DRL's, now I understand that I have a Canadian truck here in the US.

Simply disconnected the plug and all is normal, just without the DRL's.

Thanks for the great post.
