distributor teeth sheered off

My truck just recently died on me while driving. I pulled the distributor after some investigating on the 400 engine, and found that three teeth were sheered off on the distributor shaft. I tried taking a telescopic magnetic to see if I could reach any debris, nothing. Would this debris work its way down to the oil pan since I did a lot of cranking troubleshooting the initial problem? Or am I in for a dismantling of the front of the engine to try to retrieve the missing teeth. And did I possibly damage anything cranking the engine troubleshooting not knowing that there were fragments of metal floating around.

Teeth are in the pan, more than likely. Sounds like the oil pump is jammed. This sheared off the teeth. Cam gear is likely also damaged.

This happened to me on my cleveland a while ago. Only I didn't lose any teeth, the roll pin that keeps the gear in place sheared off. Put in a new pin and called it a day.
