Well it wasnt a good day for me. This afternoon a snow storm hit my area and the it got really crappy out. Snow and freezing rain blowing hard. I was out in the middle of nowhere and my truck was starting to loose traction. I hopped out and locked my hubs in. Went to go get back in the truck and the doors are locked. So there I stand in the middle of BFE without a coat on, cell phone in the truck, and no spare key on the truck anywhere. So I tried about everything I had in my tool box to try to get the door unlocked. After about 5 min of 28 degrees and snow and freezing rain blowing on me I remembered a post that someone wrote on here saying "I heard you can pop our door locks with a screwdriver" well to let everyone know....no you cant. I tried... so now my door lock on the passenger side is destroyed. I was about to take a hammer to the passenger 1/2 cab window. I thought I was going to freeze to death. Then I seen a fiberglass driveway marking rod in a fencerow. Pryed my door open at the top with the screwdriver and shoved the rod down to hit the unlock button. That worked. So anyone know how much it is going to cost me to replace the door lock I destroyed?? Sorry so long.
I've been there too. That's why I have that little quote in my signature. I'm guessing you won't make that mistake again.
I think I locked the doors when I got out. I dont have keyless entry and its habit to lock them when I get out. I always lock the doors. After my wife having her car stolen last year and her purse stolen out of her car the year before that I always lock my doors. Invested in a Springfield Armory 9mm too.
All my rides have a spare key stashed on them. Hooked is right, the antenna is the way to go, been there done that. What does that tell you? You are carrying a way in the truck at all times. I have the keyless entry, and have locked myself out as they do not work when it is running. I prefer to use a hidden key over the antenna but both work.
My yellow lab stood on the lock button and locked me out one day at the boat launch with the tide coming in fast. I have a habit of rolling the window down before i get out now.
Been there done that. I don't carry a spare key in the wallet just figured if I lost the wallet they could come for the truck but I do have one hidden pretty good on the truck.
I carry a spare illegal Mexican (lots around in North Florida). They seem like the only ones who can effectively "pop the locks with a screwdriver," with minimal damage to the vehicle. It must be part of their mandatory criminal training before crossing.
