Please help me...I think I might be up the creek
Hi guys,
As I posted below, I bought a cam in a package of stuff, and the seller doesn't remember the manufacturer. All he had was a square of cardboard from the box labeled 268H.
I have read lost about the comp cams 268H, but when I go to their page a search turns up nothing with 268H...what gives?
Also - unless I can identify and dig up the specs, does that make the cam unuseable? I mean - can I assume it is the same or similar enough to a comp cams 268H (assuming I can find data on that) to be able to assemble the rest of the valve train?

If its a Comp Cam of recent it will have its part # etched on the end of the cam that will be in the back of the block when installed. Go to Comp Cams web-site and go to the catalog section. It has a listing of pretty much everything they have, it will take a little bit to hunt it all up.

>I tried an exhaustive search of their website and catologue
> ...268H doesn't appear anywhere
268H is listed quite a few times on the Comp Cams site, just not for the 335 series. It appears in both the Ch*vy and Windsor series which would seem to add fuel to the argument that many large manufacturers modify Ch*vy grinds for Ford cams...

Thanks Bill
Your is obviously much better than my
Now, I know assuming anything is a dangerous proposition, but do you think it reasonable that some other manufacturer would make a cam labeled the same as one from a big name like Comp Cams and have it not be the same?

I think that at this point any guess would be pure speculation. I'd say that if you're seriously considering using that cam you should call the tech line at Comp Cams. Maybe they can give you some clues as to whether or not there's any way to tell if that's one of their cams or even if they or anyone else was making cams with the same grind #.

Alittle deviation from the comp cams subject , but you can order a Crane energizer cam plus the lifters from Summit for 77 plus shipping----There are 4 cams in the series for the 351m\400 engines and either of the first two choices would help your engine without getting TOO radical , fd :-X11

Bill,
You are absoloutely right...I think I am just avoiding the inevitable, becasue I'm pretty sure the answer will be "no way to tell for sure", and that means, without the cam being any use, I think I made a really unwise purchase (I didn't realize at the time that the Sps2 was such a lemon).....live and learn I guess.
Fatdaddy - thanks for that tip -I'll surf on over and check out Crane's site.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 28-Feb-02 AT 04:22 PM (EST)] Billavista, I knew I had seen the Comp cam 268H for a 351M-400 somewhere, but I was leading you in the wrong direction as for the Comp Cam web-site. I was looking in my newest Summit Catalog last night and low and behold there it was. On page 56 in the March-April 2002 issue. It was in all my old Summit catalogs also, I knew I seen it somewhere, because I had considered this cam my self for a 400. Its listed as followed.
Application, Ford 351C 351M 400
Part # CCA-32-221-3
Series 268H
Duration @ .050"
int exh
218 218
Lift
int exh
494 494
Price $99.95
And the reason I mentioned about the part# being etched on the rear of the cam is because a I recently purchased A Comp Cam Extreme 4x4 and the part# was etched on it. So I guess you would always know what it was even if it changed hands. Somewhat what your dealing with now.
