stroker!

I just had a 400 built and i spent a lot of money in it and i hope it will run good.. one thing i never thought about was having it stroked.. whats a good motor to stroke. can you stroke just about any motor to get more horse? im never interseted in it so any information would be helpful.. and any info on squeezing more powah out of my 400 would be loved i thought about supercharger or turbo but i dont think i can use them with a compression ratio of 12:1 let me know please

im kinda new to this

Hi, I think a 400m is a stroked out 351. There are lots of people here who know how to make power with these engines.
good luck Greg58

There is already a wealth of information on here.

Maybe look through the threads in this forum.

Hey Greg58
Well for the record the 351m is a destroked 400 with that said let look at buttnuttn8 question.

As most people on here know I run a Bored & Stroked 400 in my pulling truck ShaZam. Now I built this stroker to get all I could out of it for the class I was running at the time. What I didn't know at the time was my stroker 400 makes almost as much power with out the stroke. The bigger is better thoughts where running in my head at the time I built this motor. But here's what the desktop Dyno says about this. My 4.200 stroked 400 put's out 807 H.P. @ 7500 Rpm and 664 # Tq @5500 Rpm where the same motor with a 4.00 stroke makes 736 H.P.@ 7500 and 604 # Tq @ 5500 Rpm. So now the most expensive part of my stroker motors is the Steel Crank with the stroke put in it $1500 to $1800 bucks. Now what you have to ask yourself is this, is the 70 H.P. worth the $1800 Buck the crank cost, Order Flat top pistons to fit your stock rods and crank and your still making a lot of power for the cost of just pistons. As for what the best motor, well if you got the cash anyone will do.

Shazam is right, the cost of stroking is high. and the biggest gain will be torque. This is what I have seen playing with dd2k. Now I have played with my build, and im looking at 450-604hp using mostly stock or close to stock parts. Stroking didnt raise those numbers much.

1971 400
4v quesnch heads
flat top pistons
crower 390 style cam
11.7 cr
2in headers
weiand 4v intake
spacers
750 deamon carb

shazam, have you checked out how much hp you will have if you run on methanol?

GT40man: No I haven't, does the ddtd 2000 have that capability..

Besides I don't think it's allowed in my Class.. I'll have to check .

Oh goodie Class rules say I can use Alcohol Now have to get a bigger carb.

OK running Methanol I can make 850 H.P.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 02-Mar-02 AT 11:24 PM (EST)]ahh, once again i am an evil influence. take your truck to the drag strip. like this guy did.

I have a 79 Bronco with a 400/C-6 in it. I worked the 2v heads a little and put in a Crane Fireball II cam, Edel performer intake and a 750 carb in it three years ago. I use it for the ranch and to have a little fun. I have owned it since 1983.

We went to the track one night a few months ago. I decided I would line it up thinking it would run a 12 in the 1/8th as it is heavy has stock gears and 35 inch mud Terrain radials with a 6 inch lift. Needless to say I got a few "yeah, right" looks when I took it to the line. I was lined up next to a ricer with all the goodies in it. loud obnoxious pipe doing a burnout etc... I did not shift to second gear until 3/4 the way down the track. The Bronco ran a 9.92!!!! outran the Honda ricer!! There was a crowd of kids over to see what was in the Bronco. It was actually pretty funny to see the look on these kids faces. "Dude, this thing hauls butt"! What is it?
