Pcm?

So I am having the ford guys throw in an early 2004 engine that is just like the 2003 builds. My truck did have the mid 2004 build with the updated changes. I talked to Matt and he said that all I need for it to work would be an 03 wiring harness to compensate for the wire changes. Now will I have to find an earlier PCM for the engine to work? Or can it be reprogrammed? Or nothing at all? This is one question that the diesel tech told me that may cause a problem. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Great news ! I am glad its working out for you. Car-part.com has a few PCMs in our area, the cost used is 200-300 bucks.

Looking for a PCM only. Talked to numerous people today and they have the PCM's in stock. Only problem is that they need the vin # off the viehicle that the engine came from and I dont know that and neither does the auto wrecker. So the only solution I can think of is cross refrence a vin from another viehicle which has the same first gen 2004 engine (basically the 2003 model). Then i just thought of you ol' boy. Do you have a first gen 2004?

Mine is automatic...
Does it matter? There's nothing in the VIN coding that I can see about transmission type... Just guessing.

Oz it does matter for sure. Standards only need two of three plugs on the PCM.
